The Crushers Finish with a Win

The Crushers finished strong, beating the Red Devils 3-2, with Julianna scoring two in the first half and Catherine scoring in the second. What a great way to finish a tough tournament. It was a close game (closer than I would have liked) but the Crushers came to win today:

Julianna had a terrific game, making two goals before leaving for a dance recital at the half (she had a terrific performance there too.)

Avery ended up being the backbone of our defense,  shutting down several attacks before they even got close to our goal.

Riley, who has an uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time, helped created several chances for us today and scored a goal for us yesterday.

At the beginning of the game, Ellie informed me that she was feeling very offense-minded today and that she was quite sure she would play well at midfield. She was right. After a stint on defense, sure enough, she made a lovely pass at midfield and also stopped some Red Devils in their tracks (untied shoelace and all.)

With determination and focus (and a delightfully positive attitude) Gracyn helped hold down the fort on defense. I think I may have inadvertently short-changed her a bit on playing time today, so I apologize for that.

I think Mattea may have worked harder than anyone out there this weekend. She never quits, never gets fazed and is always focused. Amazing mentality.

Mia scored for us yesterday and made several hard drives on goal today, constantly pressuring the Red devil defense to give up the ball. I think I even saw her use her left foot once or twice!

Gigi was Gigi today-- cool, calm and collected,  using her big foot to send the ball upfield to the right places all weekend long, as she always does.

Catherine has great acceleration and she used it very well today to make a few strong breakaways. And after recovering from taking a ball to the face, she returned to the game to give us a third goal.

Caroline was a consistent offensive presence all weekend long and a coach's dream-- lots of hustle, great spirit and tough.

Katie has that rare goalkeeper gene and she showed it by dealing with some heavy artillery on the first day and preventing the game against the Red Devils from slipping into the loss column.

Thank you to Dan, Jason, and Brad for your coaching and thanks to Sherie for collecting the fees.

It was such a pleasure to coach The Crushers for the Sun Cup and I hope our paths will cross again in the Fall (BTW, Julianna and Mia will be playing FC Richmond Summer soccer if anyone wants to join them.)

Have a good Summer.

Here are some pictures I took. If someone sends me their team with all the coaches together, I'll post them here too:
